One the easiest way to create lead generation today on the Internet is to create a free resource that is interesting to your potential customers. Those resources can be an e-book, white paper, informational video, or a case study (report). You want to focus on the awareness or consideration stage of the buyers journey to get them closer to a lead. Here are some tips on getting people closer to a lead.

1. Create a survey

If you do not know what your customer's biggest pain the point is, then you need to ask them. Create a survey on your website. Alternatively, create a Twitter chat where you ask these questions directly.This is a great way to find out what your customers pain points are.


2. Consideration Offer

In the buyer's journey one of the stages is a consideration, this is where the you need to provide a solution for your customers. You got them to your website through search, or social, and they are interested, now offer them the solution to their pain points.


3. Respond to your followers

After you have posted that great engaging content on social media, you got some followers. Don’t ignore them! Say thank you for following you and address them by name. If you can try to engage them by asking questions.


4. Follow them back

Keep track of your followers and see if they are posting interesting information that will be great to share on your network to all of your followers. This is social magic. Reply to posts that they share and get the discussion rolling. Don’t forget to share three posts from someone else to your one from your company.


5. Educate, Educate, Educate

Don’t talk about yourself in your posts. Remember it is not about you. You should be explaining how to solve their problems. Once they understand how you can solve their problems, then you can offer a service or product to them. At that point, you have already earned their trust.


6. Follow-up

Now, that you have made contact with your follower and have their email, follow up with them in an email. Make it personal but professional. Address them by name and send them information through a series of emails over 2-4 weeks. The idea is not to intrude with email but provide more resources for them to keep coming back to your website. When they are ready, you can ask for the sale.


7. Join a Twitter Chat

Another great way to get more leads is to find an influencer in your industry and join in on their Twitter chat. Answer questions and post thought-provoking comments and questions back in the chat. This will broaden your network and create new connections and leads opportunities.
